Summer program and cultural tours

Full day excursions

Each Sunday and 2 or 3 times on a weekday we go on exciting trips to most of the following places, depending on the interest of the students.

Salzburg

About one hour by car from Bogenhofen you find the beautiful city where Mozart was born. On top of a mountain lies the castle Hohensalzburg and in the city center is the Schloss Mirabell, not to forget Schloss Hellbrunn with its famous water games.

Vienna

Vienna, the Austrian capital, is an overwhelming experience with the Schloss Schönbrunn and the life of Sissi as well as the gigantic Stephansdom with its beautiful view from the top.

Neuschwanstein

King Ludwig II loved nature. His greatest concern was not to spoil the beauty of the surroundings by building Neuschwanstein Castle, and he gave the builders precise instructions to this effect. As you approach the castle, it becomes clear just how well they succeeded. The view of Neuschwanstein Castle from the bridge behind it, the Marienbrücke, is particularly impressive and the views from the castle's many windows are like framed landscape paintings. Burghausen

Bild von BurghausenBurghausen is the world’s longest fortress. In summer we will visit a medieval festival with costumes and old trades.

Hallstatt

Rothenburg

Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a picturesque medieval town. Besides the fascinating architecture it offers many special attractions such as a medieval crime museum, a doll and toy museum, a Christmas museum, as well as a Riemenschneider-Altar.

Chiemsee

Bild von ChiemseeOne of King Ludwig II castles was Schloss Herrenchiemsee. It is located on an island in the Chiemsee and is a monument to absolutist monarchy.

Afternoon trips on weekdays

Braunau

The closest city to Bogenhofen is Braunau, with a beautiful, typically Austrian city center. You can reach Braunau in 5 minutes by train, leaving at the station Hagenau im Innkreis which is located in the village of Bogenhofen.

Mauthausen

Mauthausen was a concentration camp during the Nazi regime and today has an extensive information center. It is a sad place but historically very important and informative.

Passau

Passau is the city where three rivers meet. It also has a beautiful cathedral with the world’s largest organ. On one of the evenings we are going to enjoy an organ concert. For more information see www.passau.de

Therme Geinberg

In the area around Bogenhofen you find several hot springs. We are going to relax on the Caribbean beach at the thermal bath of Geinberg one evening. For more information see www.thermegeinberg.at

Obernberg

For those who enjoy birds of prey, the falcon show at Obernberg will be of much interest.

Sabbath outings

On Sabbath afternoons we go to interesting places nearby, such as

  • Bicycle tour in the area or visit with local families
  • Mattsee or Attersee–beautiful lakes in the area
  • Ibmer Moor – everglade or swamp
  • Villa Romanica – the foundation walls of a Roman house
  • Mondsee or Wolfgangsee – most famous lakes close to Salzburg
