About the School

The department "Deutsch als Fremdsprache" (DAF - German as a Second Language) within the language institute of the Bogenhofen theology department is one of the educational opportunities at Seminar Schloss Bogenhofen and has been teaching "German as a Second Language" to international students since 1951.

Language instruction is carried out

European students can study German in order to

  • pursue their career – for example business, interpreter, etc.
  • fulfill the requirements for taking up studies at an Austrian, German or Swiss university
  • fulfill the requirements (ÖSD – Diploma) for applying for a visa to live or study in a German speaking country

American students – beginners as well as intermediate or advanced - have the opportunity to study German for one year

  • to work towards completion of a major or minor or
  • to fulfill the German language requirements for certain PhD's
  • to prepare for their business career

The German language program at Bogenhofen is ACA accredited and part of Linguae pro Adventu, a consortium of all Adventist language institutes in Europe. In order to get credit for the studies at Bogenhofen the student has to be registered through ACA prior to beginning the language course.

Mission Statement

The department DAF within the language institute at Seminar Schloss Bogenhofen is committed to providing our students with a Christian environment that facilitates the learning of the German language and culture. Since 1951, international students are taught at Bogenhofen. The "German as a Second Language" courses are designed to teach the student the skills necessary to communicate in this important language spoken by more than 200 million people in Europe and elsewhere. German culture and literature courses equip the student with the knowledge necessary to interact with people of German background and with the ability to read and interpret German texts and literature. As a Seventh-day Adventist educational center of higher learning, Bogenhofen is committed to educating students in a friendly, Christian atmosphere.

Educational Goals

  • To equip the students with the grammatical, lexical, and phonetic skills necessary to be able to communicate - through speech and writing - using the German language.
  • To effectively prepare the students to comprehend and read modern German.
  • To help the students appreciate German culture and literature.
