Cultural Immersion Tours
An integral part of learning a new language is gaining an understanding of the language's culture. At Seminar Schloss Bogenhofen students have a variety of opportunities to visit the various places culturally associated with the German language.
A number of "cultural immersion" tours are offered throughout the year. The exact sequence may vary slightly depending on the interest of the group and the weather.
Austrian Alps
Right at the beginning of the school year Bogenhofen arranges a day of hiking in the Austrian Alps for all students and faculty and staff to enjoy fellowship in this great natural setting.
Burghausen, Castle and Museum
Burghausen is the world's longest castle, situated in a beautiful old German town at the Salzach river on the border to Austria, approximately 13 miles from the campus.
Vienna (4 days)
In the fall the language students spend four days in the Austrian capital city of Vienna.
Salzburg with "Christkindlmarkt" and a Christmas Concert
At the beginning of December the language students visit the city of Salzburg, about 38 miles from the campus. This city is renowned for its Christmas market and decorations as well as for its rich musical tradition, which is experienced through a Christmas concert.
Skiing Week
With Bogenhofen located not too far from the Austrian Alps, participating in winter sports is an exciting opportunity for language students. Consequently, language students spend a week during the winter at a mountain resort, where they can ski, snowboard, or study in the lodge. A skiing teacher is at hand for those wanting to learn a new sport. This trip is definitely the highlight of the second trimester.
Concentration Camp Mauthausen
In March – depending on the weather – we usually visit a concentration camp with a visitor center of information.
Berlin, Potsdam, Wittenberg, Dresden and Saxon Switzerland (1 week)
In the third trimester students visit Berlin, Germany's capital that is rich in history and culture. From there we travel on to Potsdam, Wittenberg – the city of Luther's posting of his theses –, Dresden – the Florence on the Elbe – and finally to Saxon Switzerland. There we will realize that Germany does not only offer impressive buildings but also beautiful nature.
Hallstatt, Eisriesenwelt
In spite of the approaching exams we visit Hallstatt – a beautiful site with a salt mine – or the ice cave "Eisriesenwelt" – a fascinating cave. If the students wish to visit other places we will try to include those in the last cultural trips.
Choir Concert Tours
Students who sing in the choir will go on two concert tours to Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
Individually - Munich, Neuschwanstein, Rothenburg
In May there are a number of holidays on which most students visit these sites and others in small groups at their own leisure because they can be reached easily and cheaply by train and the students are comfortable with the German language.

Vacation Period - Italy, France, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, England, Czech Republic, etc.
Most students enjoy touring some of these countries during the breaks (Christmas, spring, Easter) in small groups either by Eurail or using cheap flights.
